Kathmandu, GEFONT has celebrated international migrant workers day -2019 by organizing a program in Kathmandu. The day has been marked with the slogan Labor migration; "Let’s make an aspiration, not compulsion.
Speaking at the program on the occasion, GEFONT President Cde. Binod Shrestha said that GEFONT has been working to end the situation, youths are in foreign and resources are in limited hands.
He further informed that GEFONT is cooperating with trade unions and Nepalese embassies in the destination country to protect the rights of Nepalese workers working in foreign. President Shrestha said that the social security program currently implemented by Nepal should also be applicable to those going to foreign employment and they should also get pension based on their contribution.
Stating that constitution of Nepal does not discriminate between employment at home and abroad, he expressed the view that Nepali migrant workers should be brought to the social security soon.
He said GEFONT is clear that no fee will be charged to Nepalese workers going to foreign employment; he further highlighted the need for effective implementation of the agreements with countries including Malaysia, UAE, Jordan and Mauritius.
He said that no one have exemption for returning, saying that there should agreement in the same way with other countries also.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman of Returnee Migrant Nepal Mr. Uttam Adhikari said that the Nepal should formulate a policy to utilize the knowledge, skills and capital received by returnee migrant workers.
He urged returnee migrant workers skills which they had learned from the foreign countries, should use them as property, to utilize the capital, knowledge for that Government should create an environment for investing in the development of the country. He expected GEFONT to help in this.
Project Coordinator of MRA Cde. Sunil Neupane informed about the Migrant Recruitment Advisor in the program. The website launching with the cooperation with ITUC and other trade unions.
The project coordinator, Neupane, explained how workers can be benefited from this website, which sets standards for sending workers to foreign employment.
