Bishnu Khatri elected as Transport Gandaki Province President

General Federation of Nepalese Trade Union (GEFONT) Affiliate union Independent Transport Workers Association of Nepal (ITWAN) Gandaki Province has elected a 23-member Provincial Committee under the presidency of Bishnu Khatri in the second congress held in Pokhara on 20 August.  

GEFONT President Binod Shrestha inaugurated the Convention and the convention elected Baburam Rana Magar and Shyam Bajhain as Vice Presidents, Beniraj Thing as Secretary, Madan Kumar Sunar and Bharat Ale as Joint Secretaries, and Keshav Khatiwada as Treasurer.



Inaugurating the convention, GEFONT President Shrestha said that GEFONT will conduct a nationwide campaign with the goal of joining two million workers to the social security fund within the next four years.

Labor act 2074 has not been implemented in practice saying that, he stated that the labour act and social security act are complementary laws to each other, President Shrestha said that the Social Security act has not been implemented effectively even after 3 years since its implementation.



President of ITWAN Bhimjwala Rai, said that the Transport Act 2049 is not friendly to transport workers and announced that they would go on agitation to amend the Act.

In the Program CPN UML Gandaki Province Vice President and Gandaki province assembly member Mahan Regmi and others leaders addressed the issues of transport workers.
