Nationwide strike against increment of penalties

May 26 – Transport sector unions and entrepreneurs in Nepal called a nationwide strike against increment of penalties for traffic violations. Unions had already warned to call on strike if the decision of government is not withdrawn . All public vehicles remained off the roads since early morning and some cases of vandalism were reported in Kathmandu.

The government has increased the fine for violation of traffic rules through an amendment to Section 164 of the Motor Vehicle and Transport Management Act, 1993.The Unions and entrepreneurs have been protesting against this.
