GEFONT Women Committee has organised 7th National Women Conference in Kathmandu. The Conference has elected 17 Members new Women Committee under the Presidency of Mina Gurung. Likewise, Gita Karki has been elected as Vice President and Sunita Thapa as Secretary of new Woman Committee.
The Conference has adopted 14 points Resolutions. Around three hundred Representatives including 25% male participated in the Conference.
Inaugurating the Conference, GEFONT President and Chief Political Advisor of Prime Minister, Bishnu Rimal said “It is already 25 years that GEFONT has been conducting Campaign to increase women participation and the Campaign has been successful with remarkable achievement.” He proudly expressed that GEFONT Women membership and leadership is significantly increasing and expected more progress in future.
Speaking in the Conference, GEFONT Governing Council Member and MP, Binda Pandey said “during last few years, significant changes have been made on women issues but still fight for the Rights continue.” She expressed that more strong voice & pressure will be needed to implement the issues of citizenship on Mother’s name and equal rights on parental property.
Likewise, ILO Nepal Director Richard Howard said “Nepal is a good example in Asia that secure significant woman representation in the leadership.” He expressed that the New Government in Nepal has created more hope for further progress and assured that ILO is always keen to cooperate.
Meanwhile, WSM Representative Bruno, All Nepal Women’s Association President Goma Devkota, ANTUF Vice President Usha Devkota, GEFONT Woman Committee President Goma Acharya and GEFONT Woman leaders also addressed the Conference.
