GEFONT president Emphasizes Cooperation in Securing Foreign Employment

Kathmandu, GEFONT president Cde. Binod  Shrestha, said that although problems related to foreign employment are difficult to eliminate, it  can be reduced for that GEFONT is cooperating with trade unions of  different countries.

 He said that GEFONT has been working to protect the rights of Nepali workers in collaboration with local trade unions in Hong Kong, South Korea, Malaysia and Jordan since 1994.

An event organized in Kathmandu to inform the website of GEFONT operated in collaboration with ILO, & ITUC  to inform Nepalese on foreign employment. President Shrestha  said the website aims to discourage fraud manpower companies.

He further said  in the name of foreign employment, Nepali cheating by Nepali should stop. Stating that this was a matter of GEFONT's interest, he said that protection of the rights of Nepalese workers in destination country is another important concern. 

Likewise, President Shrestha  said that the Union should work with priority on how the skills and capital brought by those returnee  can be utilized in the country and how the work can be decent in Country is always in priority of Trade Union. 

Speaking on the occasion, president Shrestha said that Nepalese are suffering due to lack of information. He said that GEFONT is aiming to inform more and more Nepalese about this website for that he urged to cooperate. 

Speaking on the occasion, Mr.  Uttam Adhikari, president of Returning Migrant Nepal, an organization that has returned from foreign employment, said that GEFONT should push for a policy to discourage low-ranking menpower companies from the policy level.

President  Adhikari also informed  the role that his organization played in concessional interest rate in bank loan for  returnee  from foreign employment.

Speaking on the occasion, General Secretary of GEFONT Cde.  Janak Chaudhary said that it would not be possible for everyone to share their experience of foreign employment. He also requested to review the Manpower Company based on their experience and inform others about it.

In the program more than 50 participants has participated from Qatar, UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Afghanistan. GEFONT has been launching the website since 2016. The website lists the manpower companies of Nepal as well as Indonesia and the Philippines, which will be reviewed by the workers hired by the companies and  on the basis of workers experience  these manpower companies will be rated.
