GEFONT Karnali Province held its first convention on 9th June and elected a 17-member new leadership presided by the Tej Prakash GC including Radha Shrestha as a Vice President, Shripaal Saru Magar as a Secretary, and Tika Adhikari as a joint secretary.
Addressing the inaugural session of the convention, Chief guest GEFONT president Binod Shrestha said, “GEFONT has become empowered in the future if the workers of the informal sector could be organized either there are so many workers in the informal sector.”
Saying that GEFONT should be active in organizing the workers in Karnali, which has huge potential in terms of labour force and he stressed to train the leaders and activists of each committee to make a vigorous committee.
Expressing his best wishes for the success of the convention, Vice President and province In-Charge Bidur Karki said that, “the working class should be united with unions and raise one voice for the implementation of the minimum wages designated by the government.”
GEFONT Secretary General Janak Chaudhary said that, “the four-year future plans and programs passed by the convention should move forward by emphasizing the policy and administrative aspects to complete the programs related to organization expansion and mobilization, political- ideological direction, financial management, youth/women development, and labor-related issues.”
Chief of labor and employment office Surkhet, Samsher Rana Magar said that, “the labour office has been working tirelessly to implement the interest, security, and rights of the working class and GEFONT has been providing full support.”
Newly elected president Tej Prakash GC express the commitment to take the lead in the campaign of lifestyle transformation including social security by emphasizing, labour education and struggle, institutionalizing labor relations decent wages, and dignified work.
