Transport workers declare the programs of agitation

May 17 - GEFONT affiliate Independent Transport Workers' Association of Nepal (ITWAN) along other three Transport sector unions have declared the programs of agitation against implementation of fine increment by Traffice police ignoring the instruction of Ministry of Home affairs and suggestion of other stakeholders.

The programs:
Publicity throughout the country: May 10
Organise Gathering throughout the country: May 11
Transport strike:May 26

The government has increased the fine for violation of traffic rules through an amendment to Section 164 of the Motor Vehicle and Transport Management Act, 1993.
As per the notification of amendment published in Nepal Gazette, the new provisions of fine will come into effect from May throughout the country.

As per notification , any person caught violating traffic rules will be punished with a fine of minimum Rs 500 and maximum Rs 1,500. Earlier, the fine for traffic rules violation was Rs 25-200.
