GEFONT affiliate union UNITRAV has organized Trainings to its new members and central committee members on basic trade union knowledge and collective bargening repectively in trade union school on 3-4 Oct. 2020.
Speaking as the chief guest at the training program, GEFONT Vice President Bidur Karki briefed about the problems faced by the sector due to COVID-19 and suggested all the workers to work with safety and patience.he said learimg is a continuous process of life, and such training programs are part of union campaign.
“UNITRAV has been known as an adventurous union since its establishment with in GEFONT family. Dispite organizing millions of workers in this sector has not been easy but UNITRAV has been working effectively to organize workers through its campaign, He further added that such training programs would strengthen the movement” Karki said.
In the training that started with the definition of labor and workers, GEFONT Vice President Cde. Manju Thapa Magar informed about the basic issues of trade unions and why workers need to be organized in the union. She has also informed the necessity of organization.
Likewise, Cde. Janak Chaudhary, General Secretary of GEFONT, trained the participants on social dialogue and its importance, saying that dialogue, discussion and dialogue between one or more groups of individuals and organizations is a social dialogue. He has also informed about the collective bargaining and its objectives in the session.
Secretary General Cde. Chaudhary stressed on the need of united and strong organization by understanding the aspirations of the members properly and rising hopes of the workers.
He said that the 154th ILO Collective Bargaining Convention, passed in 1981, The objective of collective bargaining is to determine the working conditions, conditions of employment, regulation and the relationship between employers and workers.
On the occasion, UNITRAV President Cde. Suman Prasad Parajuli highlighted that the training program program has been organized with the objective of explaining to the workers about trade union and how can increase union members in the union.
President Parajuli said that it would be the responsibility of the participants to aware cadre from the workplace among the members of UNITRAV in their respective fields. 31 participants along with 6 women has participated in the training.
