CUPPEC-Nepal organizes gathering under the GEFONT Decent Work Campaign

Kathmandu, GEFONT affiliate Central Union of Painters, Plumbers, Electro & Constrution Workers union (CUPPEC-Nepal) Kathmandu district committee has organized gathering under the GEFONT Decent Work Campaign on 11 Nov. 2019 in Basundhara, Kathmandu.

The gathering  was held under the presidency of  cuppec Kathmandu district president Cde. Sabitra Rokka.  GEFONT Vice President and Province in-charge Cde.  Jitendra Shrestha addressed the gathering as a Chief Guest.

Highlighting the curiosity of the local level leaders Chief Guest Shrestha stressed on the contribution based social security should implement in construction sector. He further informed that there is frequent dialogue between the government and the trade unions going on,  so that there should be common voice of all construction workers on this issue. 

 

Vice President Shrestha said that GEFONT is in favor of unified trade union movement and also informed about the ongoing unity process between GEFONT and ANTUF. He said that unity is not meant to be a leader or someone to be a leader, it means increasing the strength of union but the process could not be completed as planned.  Now it is being practiced to complete it soon. He further said that based on the contribution, dedication, continuity of leaders and cadres will be  in Priority during the unification process  between the two unions. 

 

Speaking on the occasion, President of CUPPEC  Nepal and GEFONT NEC member Cde.  Narnath Luitel said that all committees should be mobilized to make campaign successful. likewise, While explaining about the GEFONT campaign for the decent work carried out by GEFONT.  Province No 3 President Cde. Ram Hari Nepal spoke about what a decent job is and how it can be achieved.

Speaking on the contribution based Social Security and Labor Act, Cde. Smriti Lama, GEFONT NEC member and Deputy Secretary General of CUPPEC Nepal said that the Government has launched the Social Security program from 27 Nov 2018 for all workers but social Security issue has been raised by CUPPEC since its 2nd congress 2003, she recalled. 

 

During the program, Cde. Yogendra Sharma, Member of GEFONT province Committee and Central Secretary of CUPEC Nepal said that we should have realistic analysis of every union and committee under this campaign to strengthen the union.
