GEFONT Celebrates May Day 2016 Grandly

May 01- GEFONT has celebrated May Day- International Workers Day grandly organising the Rally & Mass Gathering. Rally started infront of  Balmiki Campus & went around Putalisadak, Bagbazar, Ratnapark and converged into mass gathering in Bhrikutimandap.

During the rally thousands of workers participated & chanted slogans- guarantee the implementation of Constitution, Increase wage according to  price hike, declare Social Security Act immediately, Make success May Day, Long Live GEFONT etc.

Chief Guest , Cde.  Ishwor Pokharel, General Secretary of CPN UML address the Mass Meeting and  GEFONT President & Chief Advisor of PM – Cde. Bishnu Rimal delivered key note speech.

Addressing the 127th May Day,  Chief Guest Cde. Ishwor Pokharel said "With the promulgation of new Constitution we have passed transitional period and our current challenge is effective implementation of Constitution. However some are making conspiracy to oppose the implementation of new constitution, so we all political forces jointly need to stop them and workers power is important on this mission".

He added Government will declare the budget with policies & plan within one month and it will be very progressive for development of Nation. And he requested everyone to wait for one month.

He further said "Current Government likes to build equal relation with both Neighbor Countries and we expect same from neighbor countries as well. Nepal is independent Country and Nepalese are always   sovereign citizens."

Cde. Ishwor Pokharel remembered that during the difficult Panchayat period also Labour Leaders & Members used to celebrate May Day grandly. At that time we are struggling to secure the political rights but now after promulgation of new constitution, our struggle should be for Social & Economic transformation.

He suggested to restructure,  Trade Union according to the new development in the country. 40 hundred thousand Nepali are in migration, So it is utmost to create employment within the Country otherwise only political transformation will not make any difference in the Nation.

Cde.  Ishwor Pokharel also launched Poem Book " Old horses of Royal Stable (Shahi Tabelaka Ghodaharoo) " written by Cde. Umesh Upadhyaya, Executive Director of GEFONT Policy Institute.  His poem Collection includes poems written during 2006 movement.

Likewise, during the program, GEFONT expressed solidarity to National Campaign " I will Build by Dharahara ( Bhimsen Tower)  Myself" .  And Symbolic  Dharahara was launched by Chief Guest . And GEFONT President informed that GEFONT has collected Rs 1 per member that is total 3 hundred 87 thousand 4 hundred 18 rupees collected in National Campaign announced by Prime Minister for reconstruction of Dharahara. During the program with self motivation NIHWU Soaltee Unit Committee announced to support Rs. 50 thousand and UNITRAV Himalyan Encounters' announced to support Rs. 20 thousand for the Dharahara reconstruction campaign.

During the  program Antara Band presented various  labour songs.
