WHIN Celebrate 44th anniversary

General Federation of Nepalese Trade Union (GEFONT) affiliate union Whole Industry Trade Union Nepal (WHIN) has celebrated its 44th anniversary day at GEFONT Hall and across the country by organizing various programs.



Speaking as a chief guest at the program held in Kathmandu GEFONT President Binod Shrestha said that the Nepal independent Trade (Workers) union has a separate and glorious history in the trade union movement of Nepal. Nepal Independent Trade (Workers) Union established in 2036 BS is one of the founding unions of GEFONT. Various unions have expanded from that union and later the name was changed to Whole Industry Trade Union Nepal.

President Shrestha also discussed the role played by the Nepal Independent Trade (Workers) Union in establishing workers' rights despite the difficult political situation. He recalled the work done by the trade union leaders under the pressure of the police administration

Speaking on the occasion GEFONT General Secretary Laxman Sharma held the opinion that it is necessary to review the implementation of plans prepared in the past and prepare effective work for the coming days on the occasion of Foundation Day. He also suggested increasing the number of members and strengthening mutual cooperation with the Federation.

Bagmati Province president Ramhari Nepal, and CUPPEC Nepal President Shanta Basnet addressed the program.


In the program, the president of WHIN, Anand Thami, praised the role played by the leading leaders of the union and the contribution made to reach the current situation. He said that it is a new challenge to organize the workers in the industries and held the opinion that the employers will expel those who are involved in the union and when protesting against it, the police will be mobilized to harass them.
