June 12 –GEFONT marked World Day -against Child Labour on June 12 with the slogan “Children should get education” by organizing rally, mass meeting and various program. On the occasion GEFONT organised interaction on "the role of trade unions in the elimination of child labour."
On the occasion, Cde. Umesh Upadhyaya Secretary General of GEFONT said "We found that children are involved in numerous trades. Children are Working in extremely poor conditions in hazardous factories. Children also working as domestic workers such as fetching water, cooking, cleaning, and caring for others.
Upadhyaya added "In Nepal, workers unable to feed their family even they work hard. This is one of the push factors for children to work instead of going to school. That’s’ why the working children remain workers. Therefore, GEFONT has been organising campaign under the slogan- "Children out of work into school, adults into work".
Similarly, GEFONT Veterans Network member-secretary Cde.Kabindra Shekhar highlighted importance of World Day against Child Labour and Cde. Bidur Karki GEFONT secretary highlighted the role of Trade Unions and Children in the elimination of Child Labour.
Altogether 100 students getting scholarship under GEFONT Child Education programme had participaed in Interaction programme.
Under the education support of GEFONT more than 1000 children of workers got the formal education.
