May 15 - GEFONT affiliate Union- Independent Transport Workers' Association of Nepal (ITWAN) along with the other two -NTUCI and ANTUF affiliate Unions and Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs Federation has declared the agitation programme demanding for separate Ministry of Transport issuing a joint press release.
They also demand to withdraw the decision of increasing the minimum fine on transport vehicles by five times.
"On May 2012 , The cabinet has made the decision to merge the Ministry of Transport with the Ministry of Physical Planning and Works, and tried to erase the very existence of the transport sector with nearly 1280,000 vehicles," the communiqué reads.
The communiqué further reads, "The decision made by Minister of Labour & Transport management to provide 15 percent of the fines to the traffic police. This decision has condemned the transport entrepreneurs and the workers to a huge financial and impractical burden."
"May 27 is the day for declaration of New constitution in Nepal ,so we will wait till 28 May, after that we will be forced to go on agitation throughout the country, "the communiqué reads.
Programmes:
•Operating public transport vehicles by sticking black flags from May 23
•Sticking black flags at the Zonal Transport Offices across the country on May 25
•Putting a black flag at the Department of Transport Management on May 26
•Organizing nationwide general strike beyond May 29.
