GEFONT Pays homage to GP Koirala

" Chair of Nepali Congress Ex-PM Girija Prasad Koirala is no more now. He was founder leader of Nepali Trade Union movement and touring personality of Nepali politics. He was one of the architects of Comprehensive Peace Accord signed with the then rebel CPN (Maoist). He was leader of 2006 April Uprising, which ultimately suspended monarchy in Nepal and reinstated dissolved parliament. He was executive Head of State before CA election."

March 21- On sad demise of Nepali Congress Party's President and the former Prime minister Girija Prasad Koirala GEFONT called on an emergency meeting of National Office Bearers' (NOB) today. Presided by its president Bishnu Rimal, the meeting adopted a resolution paying heartfelt tribute to Late Koirala.

 

" GEFONT, on half of its all affiliates, members and entire working class, pays heartfelt tribute and expresses deep sorrow to founder leader of Nepali trade union movement, President of Nepali Congress and former Prime minister late Girija Prasad Koirala"; the press communiqué issued by GEFONT reads.

 

The resolution has remembered Late Koirala as founder of Nepali trade union movement and touring personality of Nepali politics.

 

"The GEFONT remembers with utmost respect to late Koirala as founder leader of Nepali Trade Union Movement, Touring personality of Nepali politics, leader of historical peoples' uprising of 2006, which ultimately established republic in Nepal and determined leader with deep desire to establish peace & democracy."

 

The emergency meeting has also recalled his participation in GEFONT organised May Day celebration of 2002; where he called-on Nepali unionists to launch 'One Union' coordinating all existing union centres.

 

"We humble recalled herewith his landmark address to our May Day Ceremony of 2002 on trade union unity favouring launching-up of One-union in the country."

 

GEFONT has paid high respect & acknowledged with high importance of Late Koirala's Statesmanship and dedication in Nepali politics since over 6 decades.

"In this time of grief we recall his role to organise workers against autocratic Rana regime in 1947 pioneer trade union movement"; GEFONT press communiqué reads.

 

GEFONT has directed its members and affiliates to participate today’s funeral procession and to issue statement expressing working peoples' condolence on his sad demise.

 

Late Koirala was 87years old. He was 5 times prime minister since 1990. He resumed responsibility of executive Head of State at January 15, 2007.
