June 22 -' Workshop on policy recommendation and identifying the situation of child labour in Nepal' organised by GEFONT, has been concluded in Kathmandu. The aim was to identify the situation of Child Labour and provide recomendations to legal gaps and enforcement mechanisms for eliminationg child labour.
On the occasion, Cde.Umesh Upadhyaya GEFONT Secretary General said "From its very beginning, GEFONT has been working for Elimination of the child labour. GEFONT also adopted the labour policy and child labour policy through its Second National Congress. We are working with the theme "Children -out of Work and into school, Adults into School." Under the GEFONT education support more than 1000 children of workers got the formal education."
Secretary General further added"Child labour emerged as an issue of Global concern. It is not the matter of abrupt stop. We cannot stop it without changing the socio and economic structure of the society. We should increase the level of awareness. Without changing the life of workers, Child labour cannot be ended".
Vice presidents Cde. Hari Datta Joshi and Cde. Bina Shrestha also adressed the workshop. During the programme, Cde. Ramesh Badal, Advocate and secretary of Foreign Affairs Department –GEFONT presented paper on problems in implimentation of Child labour Act and its solution.
Similarly Bipina Sharma from ILO presentated paper –Initiative and Action of ILO for ending child labour. Cde. Bidur Karki Secreatary GEFONT presented paper on GEFONT and Child Lbour.
During the programme,participants disucssed the gaps on child labour policy and input their suggestion , comments and recommendation .
