June 21 - Nepal Independent Domestic Workers Union (NIDWU) along with GEFONT submitted the Memorandum to the Ministry of Labour and Employment for the ratification of ILO convention No. 189. GEFONT NEC member Cde. Maiya Pode, Cde. Sonu Danuwar president of NIDWU Chair, Cde. Shushila Chaulagaivice-president NIDWU, Cde. Rohini Pd. Dahal; General Secretary, NIDWU and Cde. Bechan Mahato, Education Secretary NIDWU handed over the memorandum to the Joint Secretary Mr. Nabin Pokhrel.
Hand overing the Memorandum, Cde. Sonu Danuwar briefed about the situation of domestic workers and demanded for the ratification of the convention in order to secure domestic workers right. The demands include:Registration of Domestic Workers at the local authority, social security for all the domestic workers, to establish the embassy or labour attaché in gulf state and establish Women unit in the Department of Foreign Employment for Decent and safe foreign employment
