June 20 - Interaction on "ILO DW Convention No. 189 and the role of Trade Unions and other stakeholders in promoting the rights of domestic workers" organised by Joint Trade Union Coordination Committee (JTUCC) Women Committee has been concluded. The aim was to bring all the stackholders together on the issue of ratification of DW Covention 189.
Presenting the problems and realities of domestic workers, Cde. Pemba Lama, Deputy Secretary General of GEFONT said " the number and the tendency of employing the domestic workers is increasing but the condition of domestic workers is awful. The employers are on the favor of child domestic workers for the ease to rule and do any work at home or outside. Similar, Nepal is one of the migrant domestic workers sending country. The Migrant Domestic Workers condition is very vulnerable; even some of them loss their lives at work."
Cde.Lama further added "Trade unions and the concern agencies have to join hands together to fight the problem and establish domestic workers rights at national and international level. For that we have to ratify the Domestic Work Convention No. 189."
On the program, the principle of Utprearna Schoo, Ms. Gaura Rijal shared the views while teaching the domestic workers at school and Mr. Tilak Jang Khadka express the view from the civil society.
The program was presided by Cde. Bina Shrestha Coordinator of women committee and GEFONT Vice-Precedent and conducted by Secretary of women committee and General Secretary of FINEPT Cde. Dhan Kumari Magar.
