June 12 - 'Interaction on Green job in Nepal' organised by GEFONT has been concluded. The aim was- awareness-raising among workers about climate change and its impact on employment and development & to share the best practices conducted by GEFONT with regard to environment protection policies, decent working conditions and fundamental labour standards.
In opening remarks,Cde.Bishnu Rimal GEFONT President said"In present, the issue of Green job is the burning issue of the world. The Economy of Nepal relies significantly on agriculture, tourism, industry and construction, which are particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change. President also highlighted the GEFONT campaign on Save Himalaya-Save Climate. Sharing the Nepal country report on 'Growing Green and Decent Jobs' President said" If we invest 2% of the GDP each year in green interventions, ten thousand employment will increase."
On the occasion, Ian Barnes , ILO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific on Green Jobs Initiative of the ILO. He also shared the experiences of different country.
During the programme, Dr.Rudra Gautam and Dr.Jeevan Prasai shared the case studies on Green Jobs in Nepal .The study was conducted in Tokla Tea Estate, Aashapuri Organic Pvt. Ltd, Ashok Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Centre, Everest Kattha Industry ,Herbs Production and Processing Co. Ltd.
Participants also input their suggestion and comments on the report. The representatives from Trade unions, ILO had participated in the programme.
