May 31 - GEFONT has extended its warm congratulation to the founder General Secretary of  ITUC Guy Ryder on the election of the top post of the International Labour Organisation (ILO).  He will take over from incumbent Juan Somavia in September.

Bro Guy Ryder won May 28 vote in the 56-member ILO Governing Body, from a field of nine candidates from across the regions.  Half the members of the Governing Body are government representatives, with employer and trade union representatives each holding a quarter of the seats.

"The General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT) is extremely proud on your election as the Director General of UN's special agency- the International Labour Organisation (ILO).  Let me congratulate you on behalf of GEFONT, its affiliates along with above 353 thousand its members and the entire Nepali working class.", GEFONT president Bishnu Rimal shares feelings in a congratulation message.

President Rimal mentioned- "GEFONT will never forget your tireless effort to bid farewell to the "cold-war" effects from the trade union movement. If you were not elected the General Secretary of the then ICFTU, we doubt on creation of present ITUC and GEFONT's affiliation in a capacity of founding organisation. We truly believe that you tried your best to unify international trade union movement and we are particularly thankful that you are the one who formally onboard us in the international trade union family!"

GEFONT president recalls his first meeting in 1995, and said- "if I am not wrong, you were the secretary of workers group in ILC. I still remember remarkable moment while you were the Director of ILO ACTRAV!"

"I have No doubt that you are the very right choice for the top post of the ILO!" convincing with statement of ITUC General Secretary Sis Sharan Burrow; GEFONT president quotes her as -"The ILO has made the right choice to lead it in tackling the huge challenges in the world of work in the coming years.  With his background in the trade union movement, and the ILO itself, Guy Ryder's wide and practical experience, and his clear sense of the direction needed, put the ILO in a very strong position.  The world needs a massive focus on creating decent jobs, and we are confident that he will generate the momentum required to put employment and the rights of working people at the heart of the international economy."

"Let me congratulate you once again! Let me wish every success for your forthcoming responsibility!" President Rimal concluded his message  "May the ILO- an only tripartite UN agency be more dynamic and action oriented in your tenure!"
