Orientation to GEFONT Youth Committee on OSH

November 22 - GEFONT organised orientation on Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) in Kathmandu. The aim of this programme was to orient young workers on the issue of OSH and mobilize workplace in order to aware the workers on occupational diseases & accidents occurred in the work place and suggest the measures to improve the working environment and minimize the health hazards.

OSH is one of the major issues directly related to the workers’ rights. Almost all of the Nepali labour force involved in informal sector and are still unaware of the concept and importance of OSH. It is estimated that each year approximately 20,000 workers suffer from accidents at workplace which lead to about 200 lives lost in Nepal.

The issue of OSH is one of the major agenda of GEFONT and has been conducting OSH related training programs to make the workers more aware on the issue. As a part of GEFONT campaign, one-3 Days orientation has been conducted in Kathmandu where 30 GEFONT Youth Committee members from Construction, Industrial and Agriculture sectors had participated.
